Getting Your Book Published

The vote is out on whether or not to self-publish. There are articulate and convincing arguments on both sides. I for one am very appreciative of the choice.

A writer can choose to seek traditional publishers for some content, and self-publish for other content.

The fact that we can now choose to print on demand for virtually no money other than the cost to print and ship a book to ourselves, is a huge freedom. There is a special joy for writers to be able to hold in our hands a beautiful cover and the clear clean printed pages of our new book.

Books

You have lots of choices now a days.

1. Try to get an agent

2. Approach small publishers directly

3. Approach micro publishers to help you publish your book as a Print on Demand (POD) and either pay a fee or accept their taking a 75-85% cut on net revenue from the book

4. Pay someone who provides author services to walk you thru the POD setup

5. Learn how to do it yourself by trial and error or finding instructions on the Internet

My Writer and Author Services
There are many people to choose from to help you with your book, and many stages of the process to go through.

You can find experts and people with a lot more experience than I have.

You can also choose to work with me. The books I've worked on are on the column to the right.

There are many reasons we choose who helps us, and one of them is who you feel will best understand you, and make you the most comfortable in the process. Another is who you trust. Yet another is how satisfied other people have been with their work. Of course you want to know they can get the job done and done right.

Several writers have chosen me to work with them on their books because of the "fit", something that is a little mysterious, and delightful.

Coaching

Coach you through any of the steps in the project on an hourly basis.

Manuscript Reading and Review

Review your manuscript for a reasonable fee and give you my summary and recommendations. I do this for a flat fee, and give you comments in your document, as well a highlighting areas which are unclear or don't flow.

Editing

Edit your manuscript.

Project Manage

Guide you to agents, small publishers and other micro-publishers if you do not work with me.

Tutoring

Walk you through the steps of print on demand and ebook publishing.

Manuscript Layout

Lay out your manuscript and prepare it for loading as a PDF to a Print on Demand site.

Cover Design

Prepare sample designs for you to choose from. Locate the images if not your own, and create the cover, either online, or through Adobe Illustrator.

Pricing & Distribution

One of the many little hurdles with taking your book to market is figuring out the pricing. We'll explore the pros and cons of different price points, and your distribution choices.

Developing a Marketing Plan

This part is a lot of fun. It's very creative and we do research to find the locations and gathering places of your potential readers for one. We'll list out what we're trying to accomplish and how we'll accomplish it, and it becomes a map for managing the progress of marketing your book.

Social Media & Internet Publicity

Another fun part of the project. Based on where your likely readers are and what they like to do, we'll develop your social media and publicity plan, which is part of the marketing plan, but important enough to speak about it separately.

Events

A part of marketing, but one requiring a full plan of action.
